Today we
announced that route 11 will be the second bus route in London to be operated
by the New Bus for London.
This
second route will commence in September. It will be operated by Go Ahead and
the vehicles themselves are already in the process of delivery.
In this
blog I seek to dispel the rumours which are active cross cyberspace.
The
decision making has nothing to do with any of the following: tourism, buses
passing Windsor House, cascade consequences, or any such nonsense.
Quite
simply, I was keen to allocate the NBfL to two complete routes this year. This
means that the routes needed to be at the smaller end of the scale. Sorry to
disappoint the fantasists, but the choices and order of conversion are based on
practical and economic reasons.
There
are, of course, much larger routes in the program but they will wait until 2014
when the delivery rate is faster. The arrival of New Bus for London with its
tremendously low emissions will bring air quality advantages to the areas it
serves.
Meanwhile
LT1 remains in the USA. Tonight it is in Boston and has further destinations in
the USA and worldwide as it continues to demonstrate British technology and
innovation. There remains considerable interest overseas which may in time
translate into export orders for the bus and for its constituent parts.
We are
delighted to be rubbing shoulders with other great British innovators and
businesses as they seek to sell their wares overseas, and to confirm, of
course, that our participation is at no cost to our taxpayers.
...
I hope that LT1 can return very soon
ReplyDeleteI'm also so happy the 11 has been chosen perfect route for full conversion, and finally those awful elderly WVLs can be displaced from the route. If the allocation is ready well in advance would there be any chance that the buses can enter service early?
It would be good if a route along Oxford Street could come sooner rather than later; the ability to hop on/off in stationary traffic would be particularly useful.
ReplyDeleteNice to see that Route 11 are going to be converted to NBFL's. Plus nice to see that Go Ahead Group is going to operate the NBFL's. Thats 3 operators running the NBFL bus now.
ReplyDeleteRoute 11 is a route which goes around the sights of London and tourists mostly use it because the open top tour buses is expensive for them. xD
But with the Green Fund awarded to TFL, i am looking forward to the extra 4 electric buses which is being used from the Green Bus fund. So that will make 3 environmentally friendly bus types running in Central London.
Well its best to wait for next year to await the announcement of the future routes to be converted.
Keep up with the good work. :)
Smaller end of the scale? Fair enough, seeming as it's the first production batch. 9 next? (if it can take NB4L?). That's a small route to be honest, with 04 reg buses.
ReplyDeleteWell done, keep up the good work and good luck :)
